Let Your Cracks Do Their Thing

by Tara M Martin  - December 11, 2025

“There’s a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.”

Leonard Cohen wasn’t just writing a lyric—he was writing a truth about being human. We spend so much of our lives trying to hold everything together, to appear polished and unbothered, to hide the fractures that life leaves behind. But Cohen suggests the opposite. Maybe the cracks aren’t what ruin the vessel. Maybe they’re what make it meaningful.

This is my invitation—to live that truth. Stop trying to smooth every rough edge. Stop pretending the breaks don’t exist . Stop telling yourself you have to present a flawless front to earn a place in this world.

My cracks are not proof of failure. They’re proof that I have lived. They’re proof that I’ve stretched, tried, and risked. They mark the moments that changed me and the moments that revealed me.

And the most powerful part?

No two vessels crack the same.

My story is unlike anyone else’s. The way I’ve broken and rebuilt is personal and unrepeatable. The light that enters through my fractures creates a pattern only my life can hold.

No one will ever carry the

same shape,

the same lines,

the same glow.

So today, I’m letting my cracks show—and so should YOU!

Let the Light In. Let It Shine Out.

So many people only see my light. They don’t see the cracks, the hard moments that brought me here. Just because I radiate joy doesn’t mean I’ve had a crackless life. In fact, it’s often the exact opposite.

I try to show up REAL, always. But just because people see me happy and glowing doesn’t mean they see all the cracks that brought me here. My life has its fractures—and they’ve shaped me, making me shine brighter. The light doesn’t just come in; it flows out, through all the cracks that made me who I am. And that’s the joy everyone sees! There wouldn't be any joy shining through without the cracks.

So…let your cracks do their thing!

Let the light in. And then, let it blaze out…unapologetic.

Let it shine in a way only you can.

The world needs your cracks. The world needs your glow.

Break beautifully. Shine bright.
